From White Gold to Guilty Pleasure

From White Gold to Guilty Pleasure – European Food Culture Through the Ages (2013) is a short film on the topic of  »savoring and shame« for the online magazine Der Stille Fuchs (The Silent Fox), published by Dark Horse, an innovation consultancy firm. Each issue focuses on a different topic and connects issues of interest to the instructive dimensions of the human body’s six senses. The third issue of this magazine examined the topic of »shame«. On the basis of five ingredients – fat, meat, sugar, salt and refined white flour – the short film From White Gold to Guilty Pleasure – European Food Culture Through the Ages discusses the way in which status symbols – once used as a sign of prosperity and power – have nowadays become affordable products but with low quality. The contemporary upper class should be ashamed of such a fact, rather than celebrating the modern availability of cheap goods.
