20 km Dinner

In 2022, on the occasion of the annual Silicon Vilstal Experience Festival in Landshut, Bavaria, food experience designer Inés Lauber was asked to conceive and curate a culinary journey through the immediate region: guests were invited to take a sensory, gustatory and mental stroll across the fields and through the vegetable garden, taste freshly caught fish and learn to explore biodiversity.

The stories about the local producers and their artisanal products were staged in an unconventional way so that the guests were actively and playfully involved in the event: appetizers were arranged to be harvested, edible landscapes were designed to be curiously discovered with all senses, while most dishes were to be shared creating a sense of community among strangers. The main ingredients for this event were sourced from direct marketers within a 20 km radius of the event venue. The event becomes a meeting place between producers and consumers.

The 20 km dinner was supported by the Genussregion Niederbayern. In addition, a guideline was developed on the basis of this event, which is accessible to the various stakeholders in the region.
